Release Notes

User-facing changes in each released version, newest first. Every entry corresponds to a change that shipped in that release.

NOTE

To find out which version your robot is running, or to move between versions, see Robot Software Update and Version rollback.

v1.2609.0

  • Added support for installing and running on Ubuntu 26.04.
  • Restored LiDAR point-cloud recognition and improved its visualization.
  • Fixed an iOS crash that occurred during certain screen transitions.
  • Improved iOS UI: 3D loading indicator, safe-area handling, and text readability.
  • Fixed IR projector control to correctly follow the app toggle and docking state.
  • Improved Steam Deck gaming-mode usability: touch input, fonts, cursor, 3D performance, and zoom.
  • Fixed the TF conflict (/tf) in the Gazebo simulation.
  • Fixed four iOS issues: microphone staying always-on, 3D view freezing, background-resume failures, and a startup crash.
  • Added app auto-update and introduced a Nightly channel (replacing the old DEV channel).
  • Fixed video ghosting and audio noise/echo issues.
  • Added a new app panel for configuring mounted payload physical properties.
  • Made blackbox recording more reliable and changed the default video-recording mode to event-only.
  • Added a safety guard so sensor calibration only runs while the robot is stationary, with a two-step confirmation.
  • Manual joystick input now automatically disengages external-control (EXT_JOY) mode.
  • Improved reliability of docking marker detection.
  • Fixed the gamepad D-pad left/right inputs being reversed.
  • Restored the docking-failure escape sequence and added a new docking-cancelled state.
  • Added an on-screen keyboard for text input on Steam Deck and fixed a WiFi connection failure.
  • The app now shows step-by-step progress of the robot's auto-start sequence.
  • Fixed the payload 3D preview to correctly reflect the Livox mount angle.
  • Exposed 48V ADDON/EXTERN power controls to regular users as simple on/off toggles, with clearer terminology.
  • Added leg home-pose (jig) calibration, integrated into the Settings calibration tab.
  • Added a center-of-mass alignment walk with a progress popup before calibration, plus a level guide during IMU zero-point calibration.
  • Point2Go targets can now be set by dragging directly on the app screen.
  • Added an in-app physics simulator (MuJoCo) available on all platforms.
  • Fixed a left-right inversion in the leg home-pose 3D view and unified the front/rear viewpoint.
  • Improved control-home usability: reorganized observation cards, docking button, and connection-status card.
  • The app now shows stair/edge detection markers and supports point-cloud and blackbox video playback.
  • Added gyro bias calibration and restricted accelerometer calibration to the sitting posture.
  • Joint home-pose setting can now be executed per joint group.
  • Cleaned up the connection-tab status display and added a data-transfer indicator.
  • Improved accuracy of payload-mount detection for PTZ, CCTV, and thermal-camera payloads.
  • Reorganized the summary configuration card around mounted equipment and sensors.
  • Streamlined the app entry, robot-connection, and control flow, adding automatic robot WiFi switching and connection.
  • Added a dedicated Dock View screen showing a 3-way camera split and marker-detection status during docking.

v1.20.0

  • Docking station recognition is now more stable, with a new overlay shown on the docking scan screen.
  • Unified wheeled-robot locomotion with the legged-robot gait system and improved stability during wheel docking and stance transitions.
  • We've reorganized the product documentation so you can find the information you need more easily and clearly.
  • Upgraded the robot communication link for more responsive control, brought full feature parity from the previous control app, and completed support for Steam Deck and desktop platforms.
  • The GUI now automatically detects which features a robot supports, and a dedicated interface for wheeled robots has been added.
  • Unified PC status warning messages and cleaned up the log view by excluding unnecessary entries.
  • Resolved compatibility issues from the video-call system upgrade and improved audio quality and connection stability.
  • Made app auto-updates more reliable, refined the operator screen, and fixed an issue where the microphone indicator lit up incorrectly the first time the camera turned on.
  • Reinforcement-learning training and playback with IsaacGym can now be set up easily via Docker.

v1.19.48

Stable and nightly

RBQ software ships on two tracks. The release notes above cover stable.

Stable (tagged release)Nightly

PublishedOn releaseEvery night, automatically
ContainsOnly changes that passed release validationEverything developed up to that day
RetentionEvery version is keptOnly the newest — each build overwrites the last

CAUTION

Run stable on robots you operate in the field. Nightly is built exactly the way stable is, but it does not go through release validation — it can contain behavior that is still being worked on.

Before choosing nightly, note that:

  • You cannot go back to an earlier nightly. The channel keeps only the newest build. To go back, pick a stable version and install that instead — see Version rollback.
  • The documentation is split the same way. If you run nightly software, read the nightly docs below as well; the stable docs may not describe that behavior yet.
  • The release channel selector lives behind developer mode (access level 2 or higher).

Which docs am I reading?

Like the software, this site is published in two channels.

nightlyrainbowrobotics.github.io/RBQ/nightly/Work in progress — may describe unreleased behavior

Switch between them with the channel selector in the top navigation. If you operate a robot in the field, stay on stable.

This user manual is intended for RBQ users.
